Description

Interlock needs overly computerized access to beverages. We should have a kegerator that dispenses homebrewed beer and soda. Said kegerator should have at least one tap, preferably three (swill beer, high octane beer, soda). The kegbot software package looks pretty perfect thus far, consisting of some python giblets and some firmware for an Arduino microcontroller. I think we'd need to add some functionality to it though.

Wants

  • Multiple keg support
  • User authentication via official Interlock ID (ibutton, rfid) and LDAP service.
  • Pour tracking in fluid ounces
  • Individual flow on/off at each tap, so for example beer taps would not be enabled for underage users (this functionality would need to be added to kegbot)
  • Keg fullness tracking
  • Email or tweet when keg gets low
  • Kegbot IRC bot integration
  • Strictly enforced beer club "donations" (paypal money to the kegbot to refill your account)
  • Cold filtered water tap? (free, of course)
  • Guest pass fobs
  • Dollar bill eater machine, state ID scanner (for proof of age)
  • Sexy retro fridge

Parts

  • Fridge or chest freezer
  • Temperature controller (if we use a chest freezer)
  • Arduino
  • Flowmeters
  • Some sort of solenoid to lock/unlock beer lines
  • Fob reader
  • Ethernet shield
  • Kegs
  • Hoses
  • Taps (Berticus has a few spares)
  • Tap handles (sounds like a makerbot job to me)
  • Drip tray
  • Beer

Plan

The first order of business is to keep our eyeballs peeled for some cool looking fridges, or failing that, any ol' fridge or chest freezer. They're all over craigslist, so we just have to find one that's the right size/shape for the space. Meantime we should start tinkering with the kegbot software and microcontroller hardware.
